OpenManual · iPhone · iPad · Version 1.7 · Requires iOS 26
Find the right manual for the thing in front of you.
Point OpenManual at a label, barcode, product, or device. It turns the details you can see into a reviewable set of public manuals, maintenance guides, safety notices, parts information, and software supplements.
A clear path from the thing to its documents
1. Start with what you have
Scan a label or barcode, take a photo, import one, or type the model, catalog number, or device identifier yourself.
2. Review a document set
OpenManual can look beyond one generic manual. It keeps room for the maintenance, compatibility, safety, and software material a device may also need.
3. Keep only what fits
You review a possible match before saving it. Saved documents stay with that device on your iPhone, and answers cite the document pages used.
Built for normal people, not a product database
- One place for the thing in front of you. Household equipment, vehicles, electronics, tools, and eligible medical-device documentation all start with the same simple job: identify it, then find the documentation that applies.
- It does not pretend one PDF is the whole answer. A vehicle can have an owner’s manual, feature guide, maintenance material, safety notices, and parts information. OpenManual makes that scope visible.
- It keeps the decision with you. A found PDF is a possible match, not a guarantee. Check model, revision, region, and manufacturer information before you rely on it.
- Medical boundary. OpenManual can locate and quote documentation. It does not diagnose, recommend treatment, or choose patient-specific settings.
Public documents, not access-control workarounds
When it looks for a document, which it starts by itself once a device is identified, OpenManual uses bounded public search, archive, manufacturer, and regulator sources, straight from your iPhone or iPad, to find public HTTPS documents. Its isolated, nonpersistent browser component can render a results page and inspect public result pages, up to 24 on up to 12 sites, to find direct document links and, when a result page holds instructions as text with no file to link, to make a PDF of that page the way Print to PDF does in Safari. It validates prospective files before offering them in the app. From version 1.7, a result that is a page and not a file is listed for you to open yourself in Safari. It does not sign in, reuse credentials, type into forms or click buttons, solve CAPTCHAs, recursively crawl sites, or bypass logins, download gates, paywalls, or other access controls. Read the Content & Document Source Policy for the exact boundary.
